SQL Server 2012 End-of-Support: Your Options

SQL Server 2012 came to the end of support on 12th July 2022, which means no more security patches will be issued. Many organisations are still running SQL Server 2012, but don't worry - with Bytes you are in safe hands. Below are your options going forward:
1. Migrate applications and SQL Server databases to Azure Virtual Machines and get free Extended Security Updates for three years after end of support, only in Azure. Depending on the ROI we can request funding from Microsoft under the Azure Migration and Modernisation Program, otherwise known as AMMP, which helps to cover the cost of the migration. Our Services Delivery team have then proven expertise to deliver migrations using the AMMP framework.
Some on-premises SQL Server and Windows Servers run many business-critical applications that may take more time to modernise, so there are a couple of options to stay on premises:
2. Upgrade to the latest version of SQL Server, SQL Server 2022.
Or, if you have active Software Assurance but can’t upgrade then you could:
3. Purchase Extended Security Updates, as you may have done previously when SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 went end of life. If you have active Software Assurance or subscription licenses you can purchase Extended Security Updates annually for 75 percent of the license cost of the latest version of SQL Server or Windows Server for the first year, 100 percent of the license cost for the second year, and 125 percent of the license cost for the third year.
